This proverb is from the people of Psycosterapistolos. 
We show in others what we see in ourselves. 
Nolan's index finger points at the Odysseus. This fictional man is ashamed of what he did. He won the battle but lost the war. We see the PTSD soldier format of a man mingling around the shores of fictional seas. With all the Batmanish accessories and the face of Jon Bernthal which is so Ford vs Ferrari (even if he is bald and with beard), We see the Vampire, Queen of Genovia and Spider Man. Zendaya looks at Odysseus as the freeman looks at the Mahdi in the Dunes (telling him not to decieve others with the prophecy.) We see the Will Hunting and say to him "it is not your fault". (It is Nolan's fault.) 
We see how Nolan refuses to accept the text as it is.
Because if he does then Odysseus does not feel bad at all. He is so smart that he can outsmart the Gods. He is no ordinary man. He is challenging Gods, he is having affairs with Goddesses. 
Nolan is also having his go at the Gods of cinema, he is playing with his chances of remaining in the big club of names. He thinks he has faithfull fans who will love everything he does. He is trying to outsmart those who watched 1997 version at least or those who tasted Troy, Gladiator and etc. He has followers who mumble about the IMAX camera. Just like the glorious arrow of Odysseus, camera of Nolan is waiting to be used properly. The question is what is the purpose of the arrow or the camera if it serves no good. Great tool does not automatically mean great work. 
I suggest to those of you that watched it, find redemption in Shawshank movie. Andy is in prison for years. He is another version of Odysseus. He dreams about the boat. The boat that Odysseus dreams to escape from. 
Andy's story was not a box office success. Movie theater stats were not that. But VHS after VHS people started to find that redemption. 
Andy also dealt with the God of prison and its syrenes. He did not change. He remained himself. He fought that battle and won the war. There was no woman waiting on that shore. There was his friend coming his way from his own battle. 
Andy was the Trojan horse that destroyed the entire prison system. He killed his enemies without touching them. Slowly, gradually but systematically he went to the wall with that spoon. There was a "Helen" on his wall as well. Helen was a cover up. Andy found refuge in classical music. Music of the composers saved so many of Nolan movies. 
The Oscars. So much of talk already. Mark my words. There will be a time where film makers will be required to have an actual alien in their cast to be nominated for the prize. 
Now, my index finger is on Odysseus and Nolan. What am I pointing at? Who are my Gods and what are my challenges? What is my Trojan horse? 
Am I like Andy who wishes for the boat? 
Am I like Odysseus who runs from one? 
Am I like Nolan who cuts the important parts to remain important?
