Yesterday was International Book Day and it went nationally unnoticed. Complete silence and no fireworks. Why should we care about people who write and what is written? Well, I am pretty sure you can see the results of illiteracy almost on a daily basis but it all can change. Personally, I feel so blessed to be able to read books at an early age and form a deep relationship with them. It would be important to mention some of them for the sake of the day:1. Bug Jargal - Victor HugoThis book's cover captivated the child in me. Hero of a different type. I've never seen such different character. (At that age.) 2. Martin Eden - Jack LondonThis story is so dear to me because I see the injustices all the time and yet I fight for my turf of happiness. 3. Count De Monte Cristo - Alexander DumasEdmon Dantes was a walking lesson of betrayal, survival and reconsideration of decisions. 4. Noa-Noa - Paul Gaughin Journey of an artist who was always searching out in the open seas. He searched and he found some of the answers and he found a real friend who wrote to him a lot. Monfred. 5. To Live - Yu HuaThis story resets me as a writer. I see how magical a story can be even if it is out in the farmers field of China. 6. The Old Man and the Sea - Hemingway One more time. Every champion and every great person who tasted greatness will wait for the second chance to feel it. Even if it means for the last time. Greatness and majestic hunt for purpose can go on for years. 7. Shantaram - Gregory RobertsWhen put this book down I felt defeated by his way of combining all sorts of elements to portray Indian culture, nomads and love. 8. Poems of Emily Dickinson When I read them I see myself sitting under the huge oak trees and staring at the endless fields. I feel eternal. 9. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen She wrote this book in her kitchen and she cooked. I mean she "cooked". Love is a glue which holds all of our darkness and miseries. Without it we would be so dull. 10. There are so many books. Countless numbers of them. Each story is so dear and so important. I am pretty sure you also have your own lists. Thank You note! This gift was given to me by Ozunu Yarat team. I will gift it back to one of my readers as a collectable item.
